Er erlitt am 13.08.1916 bei der Wallfahrt in Kevelaer einen Schlaganfall und verstarb ebenda einen Tag darauf. Seine Witwe Antonette, geb. Rechmann gt. Baumeister<em> <\/em>bewohnte den Hof weiterhin mit ihrem ledigen Schwager Heinrich, bis der Hof in den letzten Kriegstagen beim Einmarsch der Amerikaner abbrannte. Die Inschrift in der Sandsteinumrandung der Haust\u00fcr lautete:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Johann Frie &#8211; A. M.
